Shopping is a short distance away in both the city of Carlisle and the historic market town of Penrith. There are art galleries, houses and gardens to visit (some seasonal), events and wonderful views of the countryside and mountains. For the more active there is local walking in plenty with public footpaths for short or strenuous excursions. The Miller's Way (Kendal to Carlisle) is nearby. It is a short drive to the Eden Valley to the east or the Lake District to the west.
It is only 20 minutes to the Lake District National Park at Caldbeck, a pretty rural village with a selection of specialist shops and eating places. We can advise on routes for cycling on a multitude of tracks and quiet roads. (If you bring your own bike we can store it under cover for you overnight but you must have your own insurance).
